PERFORMING ARTS

Subject Information

Within the Performing Arts area we offer a range of level 3 BTEC options in Performing Arts so the course you choose suits you and your future. We offer general Performing Arts or the opportunity to specialise in Acting or Dance.

We also offer a range of different sized BTEC qualifications including an Extended Certificate and a Foundation Diploma.

During the course you will take part in practical activities in the studio and in the theatre. You will also work with professional artists in workshop situations and take part in trips to industry.

Your assessment is spread over the course of the year and could involve live performance, written assignments, presentations, practical assessments and witness statements. Your assessment will be a mixture of internally assessed work and externally assessed work.  There are no exams!

This course will enable you to progress to a higher education degree or drama school. You may also chose to enter a specialist area of employment within the performing arts industry. Many of our ex-students are now working in the industry.

Student Work

Student Profile: Lewis McBean

When I was here at HSFC I was studying 3 A levels along side my BTEC in Performing Arts. It was a busy time for me but I knew exactly what I wanted to do. It was my priority to get into a UK accredited drama school and this course could help me do that. We practiced a range of theatre including Naturalism, The Musical, Brecht, Dance, Physical Theatre and even Theatre of Cruelty! My time at college was brilliant and I enjoyed every single second of it. The facilities for the course speak wonders and we are very lucky to have the staff that work for the department.

I auditioned for drama schools nationally during my second year and gained a place at the renowned Guildford School of Acting on a BA (Hons) Musical Theatre course with a strong vocational focus on singing, acting and dance. It's been fantastic and I have worked with so many people direct from West End and Broadway. I now have a theatrical and TV & Film agent based in London's West End and I'm currently auditioning for all sorts of performing jobs.

HSFC remains close to my heart and I still visit when I'm home in Hartlepool. Soak up everything you can from your time at the college and don't ever be afraid to do what you want to do. Just work hard doing it!
